Holter Monitors.

What is it?

A holter monitor continuously records your heart’s electrical activity. It is typically ordered to be worn between 24 and 48 hours.

When is it ordered?

Holter monitors are often ordered for patients with heart conditions so our providers can assess your heart’s function outside of the office. Like other cardiac symptoms, abnormal hearth rhythms come and go , so it is important that our providers are able to monitor your heart’s activity while you go about your normal day. The results of wearing this monitor can show our providers whether your medications are working properly, determine whether your heart is receiving the right amount of oxygen, or provide possible explanations for symptoms you may be experiencing.

How should you prepare?

If one of our providers orders you a holter monitor during a consultation, an authorization will be requested to your insurance company. Once it is received, we will have you come back into the office to have it hooked up. It only takes a few moments, but plan on bathing before your appointment because they must be kept dry once monitoring begins.

How long does the test last?

A Holter Monitor is typically worn for anywhere between 24 and 48 hours.
